2007-08: Sophomore Alex Brand is a strong fencer, who will help round out the men[apos]s saber team. 2006-07: Brand went 13-17 in dual meets ... he season-best finish was a third-place tie at the Nick Toth Open ... he also finished fifth at the New Mexico Open ... in March 2007, he was the Falcons[apos] fifth-place finisher in saber. Before Air Force: He has fenced since age 11 ... began being coached by his father Peter Brand ... later coached by Vitaliy Nazarenko when he began high school ... later switched to Jarek Koniusz in his junior year ... made honor roll throughout high school ... made high honors his senior year ... finished 11th in Div. II national event and 12th in an Under-17 national event ... was also New England champion in juniors (U-20), placed third at the open regional event ... His father, Peter Brand is the head fencing coach at Harvard and his team was NCAA champions last year ... Mother is Jackie ... he has one brother, Michael. Academy: Wants to major in Biology/pre-med ... hopes to become a flight surgeon, serve in the Biomedical Sciences Corps, or Medical Corps ... member of Squadron 21.
