Chiara Tranquilli is in her third season as an assistant coach with Air Force fencing in 2021-22. Tranquilli's primary duty is working with the foil group.
Tranquilli comes to the Academy after spending the 2018-19 season as a coach at Cornell, where she worked along side current Air Force head coach Omar Elgeziry.
In 2020-21, Tranquilli was instrumental in helping develop a school-record 10 NCAA qualifiers, including third-time NCAA foil qualifier in Nestor Levin. Levin captured his second All-American honor with an 8th place finish. For her efforts, Tranquilli earned severall accolades, including 2021 Western Fecing Conference Men's Foil Squad Coach of the Year and 2021 USCFA Mens' Fencing Assistant Coach of the year.
Her first season at the Academy produced immediate success. The Falcons had five fencers earn NCAA bids, the most since 2015. The Falcons produced a school-record five USFCA All-Americans, in addition 10 all-region honorees. Amongst the foil group, sophomore Nestor Levin earned All-America honors, as he qualified for the NCAA's for the second-straight season. In addition, the Falcons had three all-region honorees in foil (Levin, Kaitlyn Guo and Alison Wong).
In her season at Cornell, Tranquilli helped the Big Red to its highest team finish in the NCAA era as Cornell had two individual top 10 finishes and placed 14th overall as a team.
A member of the 2012 Italian National Fencing Team, Tranquilli was the 2009 bronze medal winner in individual foil at the Fencing World Cup in Luxemburg. She also took gold in the foil team competition at the 2014 Italian Fencing Championship and earned silver at the 2017 event.
Prior to her arrival on East Hill, Tranquilli served as a fencing coach for four years with the Frascati Scherma Fencing Club in Rome. She is also a certified national fencing referee in Italy and is a certified international referee for modern pentathlon.
Tranquilli is a 2018 graduate of the University of Rome Tor Vergata with a bachelor’s degree in economics and management.
