Rhys Douglas enters his third year with Air Force fencing in 2026-27 as an assistant coach. Douglas comes to the Academy from Denison University, where he led the saber squad to an undefeated season and first-place finish in the Eastern Women’s Fencing Conference in 2023.
In 2026-27, Douglas helped guide the Falcons to its first-ever MSPF Championship as the men's team won the title. The 18 wins by the men's team was also the most at Air Force in 30 years. Douglas coached freshman Andrei Nazlymov to an MSPF gold medal in men's foil and a trip to the NCAAs.
Douglas spent four years at Denison, earning Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Assistant Coach of the Year honors in two of those years. In addition, Douglas is a three-time National Finalist for the USFCA Assistant Coach of the Year.
As an athlete, he competed for Ohio State, where he was part of the 2012 National Championship team. During his time at Ohio State, Douglas was a three-time Midwest Conference team champion and three-time individual Midwest Conference Champion. He also represented Team USA on the international state for almost a decade, including the Junior World Championships in saber in 2011.
