Ian Irmischer (Lt. Col. Retired) enters his eighth season as the volunteer assistant coach for Air Force men's tennis in 2025-26. In addition to his duties with the men's team, Irmisher spent the 2022-23 season as the assistant coach for the women's team.
LTC Irmischer began his tennis coaching career in 2018 when he joined the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) men’s tennis staff as volunteer assistant coach. During Irmischer’s tenure with the men’s program, the team has posted a record of 45-37, while going 15-9 in 2022 with a 3-3 mark and a third-place finish against Mountain West opponents- the program’s best regular-season conclusion since joining the Mountain West in 1999.
Before joining Falcon Athletics, Irmishcer served as director of the Geospatial Science program at USAFA.
Irmischer is a career military officer with over 26 years of service in the United States Army. Throughout his career, Irmisher has led operational deployments to Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. As a combat engineer company commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, Irmischer’s company fought to secure the city of Baqubah, Iraq. While in Afghanistan, Irmischer managed an Engineer Company, Military Intelligence Company, Signals Company, MP Company and Chemical Platoon to help secure Jalalabad and support operations in northeast Afghanistan.
Following his operational assignments, Irmischer obtained a Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Barbara where he studied computer mapping algorithm development, spatial and sports analytics, and human energy expenditure during navigation.
Prior to arriving at USAFA, Ian served as an Officer Representative for the men’s tennis team for Army, West Point under the mentorship of coaches Jim Poling and Randy Rowley. Irmischer also serves as the Director of Tennis for the North Springs Tennis Academy in Colorado Springs.
Ian lives in Colorado Springs with his two girls Ava (15) and Dylan (11).
