SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2015-16: Impacted the Academy record book in both the heptathlon and decathlon...registered the ninth-best heptathlon total in program history (4,910 points) during a seventh-place performance at the Mountain West Indoor Championships...finished second in the heptathlon high jump with a career-best 6'4" at that meet...also registered personal-best marks in the 1000-meter run (2:51.16) and 60-meter hurdles (8.69) at the conference championships...tallied a (then) career-high 4,811 points to place third at the Air Force Invitational...earned top-three event finishes in the long jump (second, career-best 21'9"), 60-meter dash (third, 7.23) and 1000-meter run (third, 2:56.73) during that heptathlon performance...long jump distance was ranked third on the team in 2016...tallied career-best marks in the pole vault (13'11¼") and shot put (38'6¼") at the Rocky Mountain Classic...also competed in the 55-meter hurdles at that meet, finishing in a time of 8.10...clocked a career-best 7.19 in the 60-meter dash at the New Mexico Team Invitational...recorded the 10th-highest decathlon total in Academy history (6,617 points) at the California Invitational...finished third out of 16 competitors to mark the best Air Force decathlon finish in five years...earned top-three event finishes in the 100-meter (career-best 11.22) and 400-meter (career-best 50.58) events...also recorded personal-best marks in the 1500-meter run (4:43.67), high jump (6'3½"), long jump (21'0"), shot put (37'8½"), discus throw (107'0") and javelin throw (144'3") at that meet...recorded a 15.40 in the 110-meter hurdles at the Michael Johnson Invitational...that was the third-fastest time on the team in 2016...clocked a wind-aided time of 15.19 in that event at the Colorado Invitational...also matched career-high clearance of 13'11¼" in pole vault at that meet...academic all-conference selection...MW Scholar-Athlete.
FRESHMAN YEAR | 2014-15: Competed in three outdoor meets before undergoing knee surgery...posted a career-best high jump clearance of 6'0" at the Jack Christiansen Invitational...recorded a personal-best long jump mark of 21'4" at the New Mexico Quadrangular...also earned a top-three finish in the high jump (5'7¾") at that meet...did not compete during the indoor season...academic all-conference selection.
HIGH SCHOOL: Cheney High School...two-year letterwinner in track and field...finished sixth in both the 300-meter hurdles at the Washington state championship meet during first season of competitive track...earned first-team all-conference honors as a hurdler...received the team's Top Track Athlete award...earned Scholar-Athlete honors...lettered two years in football...earned first-team all-conference honors as a linebacker...also received second-team all-conference status as a running back...named Scholar-Athlete...also earned two varsity letters in basketball...member of the National Honor Society...served as ASB Vice-President...graduated #10 in class.
PERSONAL: Son of Mark and Dawn Berstler...has three older siblings (two brothers, one sister)...majoring in biochemistry...future plans include attending graduate school and pilot training...served as Operations NCO during the 2016-17 academic year...hobbies include hiking, camping, cliff jumping, basketball and hanging out with family, girlfriend, friends and dog (Liko)...would like to add "I had troubles with injury (as a sophomore), so my main goal is to listen to my body and focus on the quality of practice, instead of quantity. I want all of the combined event athletes to finish the season injury-free and perform to their potentials. Confidence and perseverance is key to a great season"...member of Cadet Squadron 11.
