SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2023-24: Competed in the 5000-meter run twice during the outdoor season…posted a season-best time of 14:01.39 to finish fifth out of 110 runners at Azusa Pacific’s Last Chance Meet…opened the season with a 10th-place time of 14:14.25 in the Invitational section of the Drake Relays……MW Scholar-Athlete…earned Academic All-District honors by the College Sports Communicators.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2022-23: Impacted the program’s all-time standings in three events…broke the program’s Freshman Class Record in the 10,000-meter run during an event debut of 29:35.46 at the Bryan Clay Invitational…that is the 15th-fastest time in Air Force history…also debuted at No. 19 on the program’s outdoor 5000-meter standings after clocking a time of 13:59.23 to finish sixth out of 109 runners at the APU Franson Last Chance Meet…also competed in the 1500-meter run twice, posting a personal-best 3:51.07 (adjusted for altitude) at the Air Force Twilight Open…two-time Mountain West Freshman of the Week…competed twice during the indoor season…debuted at No. 24 on the program’s 5000-meter standings during a 14:13.50 finish at the David Hemerey Valentine Invitational…added a ninth-place 3000-meter time of 8:27.70a at the Potts Invitational…academic all-conference selection…MW Scholar-Athlete.

MAJOR CROSS COUNTRY HIGHLIGHTS: Named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year after posting the best finish by a true freshman at the conference championship meet in 2022…also claimed MW Freshman of the Week honors twice that year…earned first-team all-conference honors as a sophomore after finishing fourth at the MW Championships.

TEAM USA: Helped Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2023 World Athletics U20 Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia…No. 3 runner for Team USA after finishing the 8km race in 26:24 (21st)…earned Team USA spot after finishing fifth at the USATF U20 Cross Country Nationals in a time of 23:54.2.

HIGH SCHOOL: Big Bear High School…California D4 state cross country champion as a senior…three-time CIF Southern Section champion (once in cross country, twice in the 3200-meter run)…East Bay Nationals finalist…class valedictorian.

PERSONAL: Full name is Maxwell Michael Sannes…goes by Max…nickname is “Mooch”…son of Michael and Monique Sannes…has one older sister…majoring in civil engineering…named to the Dean’s List every semester…loves to run…hobbies include ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, wake surfing, and running…grandfather served in the Army…ran a lot of miles over the summer…member of Cadet Squadron 31.
