Chris Gines is the associate athletic director for compliance. Gines moved into the associate athletic director’s seat in July 2023, after serving as assistant athletic director for compliance since 2014 where he was responsible for administering a comprehensive compliance program for the Academy’s 27 NCAA sports. In addition to his compliance duties, he has served as a sport administrator for several of the Academy’s athletic teams and represented the athletics department on numerous institutional committees.
Prior to Air Force, Gines worked at the NCAA national office in academic and membership affairs where his work focused on student-athlete reinstatement and academic waivers. He has also worked in the general counsel office of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), and in the athletic departments at Indiana University and Texas State University.
Gines currently serves as the Chair of the NCAA National Collegiate Fencing Committee and is also a member of the Legislation and Governance committee of the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC). Additionally, he has served on numerous committees for major events such as the NCAA Final Four, the NCAA Women’s Final Four, the Big Ten Football Championship, and the FCS National Championship. Gines has completed the NAAC Senior Management Mentoring Track and has led professional development sessions at both NCAA Regional Rules Seminars and NAAC Conventions.
Gines attended DePauw University for his undergraduate degree where he studied kinesiology with a focus in sports medicine and chemistry, was a member of the football team for four years, and participated in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Additionally, he holds a master’s degree in athletics administration and sport management from Indiana University – Bloomington and a juris doctorate from Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Gines is licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana.
Gines resides in Colorado Springs, with his wife, Megan, and their daughters, Eleanor and Cecelia.
