Dr. Matt McGahey is the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. In this capacity, McGahey oversees all external operations and revenue generating functions for Air Force Athletics. These external units of oversight include development, marketing, ticketing and the department’s partnership with Learfield and Air Force Sports Properties. In addition, he will lead the development and implementation of externally focused strategic initiatives.
McGahey worked at East Tennessee State University from 2009-2022 and served as the Deputy Athletic Director prior to his arrival in Colorado Springs. McGahey led ETSU’s external operations team and oversaw the areas of development, marketing, ticketing, communications, fan experience, the Buccaneer Sports Network and was the sport administrator for multiple teams. Matt was instrumental in developing ETSU’s multi-media rights partnership with Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment and was the liaison between VWSE and ETSU for the athletic department's corporate partnerships. During his time at ETSU, the department experienced record setting revenue generation and attendance at athletic events.
McGahey played baseball at Virginia Tech and ETSU. He earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, master’s degree in sport management, and Doctor of Education degree in global sport leadership from ETSU.
Matt is a native of Johnson City, Tennessee. He and his wife, Jessica, have two sons, Nolan and Walker.
