Elroy Perkin was announced Head Coach to the Air Force Regional Training Center and assistance coach to the Falcon wrestling staff beginning in the 2024-25 season. Perkin brings nearly a decade of coaching experience and over 20 years of wrestling experience.
Perkin joins the Academy by way of Big 12 Conference rival California Baptist where he helped transition the Lancers from a Division II program to Division I, guiding a pair of wrestlers to NCAA Div. I NCAA qualifications. Prior to his stint at CBU, Perkin was the head assistant coach at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he earned the Joe Merten Coaching Excellence Award for his efforts in helping produce an All-American and 11 national qualifiers. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Perkin was the 2019 AIA coach in Ukraine and served seven years as camp counselor at USAFA and the U.S. Naval Academy.
"We are excited to add another high-level coach to our staff who shares our vision of being a mission first, values base, championship program," Coach Barber said. "Elroy brings a wealth of knowledge to our program both on and off the mat. He is versatile; he will train and wrestle with our cadet-athletes from 149-184. He will have an outstanding opportunity to elevate our program as the Head Air Force Regional Training Center Coach in his new role. As our newly created role of Assistant Recruiting Coordinator, he will work with Coach Heilman to ensure we continue to bring in nationally ranked recruiting classes that have the attributes it takes to pursue excellence in the classroom, on the mat, and grow into outstanding future officers for our nation."
During his collegiate wrestling career, Perkin was a two-time Div. III All-American, three-time national qualifier, and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champion. Post college, Perkin placed fifth at the 2021 U.S. Open and qualified for the World Team Trials. Perkin's resume includes elite wins over NCAA finalists and All-Americans such as Sammy Sasso (Ohio State), Josh Shields (Arizona State), Julian Ramirez (Cornell), Dan Vallimont (Penn State), Quincy Monday (Princeton), Josh Kindig (Oklahoma State), and David Habat (Edinboro).
