Mr. Tim D. Hartje is the Director of Cadet Fitness Testing and Evaluations Division and an Advanced Instructor of Physical Education (Physical Education Review Committee). In his current position, he instructs a myriad of physical education courses, oversees 11,000 cadet physical fitness tests each year, executes various athletic rehabilitation programs and facilitates the Physical Education Review Committee. He is a 1986 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel with 25 years experience as a Communications and Information Officer. He has over 32 years of professional experience leading, mentoring, and managing personnel and programs in a myriad of leadership positions. Mr. Hartje was twice selected as Commander of communications squadrons at Brooks AFB Texas and Robins AFB Georgia where he led his teams in support of the installations communications, computer and information services. Given his information technology background he has been serving as the Athletic Department's change agent for the USAFA Cadet Student Information Systems.
Mr. Hartje earned varsity ice hockey letter awards from 1982-1986 at the Air Force Academy and was selected as Team Captain and Most Valuable Player his senior year. Upon graduation he served as the Academy Hockey Graduate Assistant Program Manager for one year and later returned as Assistant Ice Hockey Coach and Physical Education Instructor from 1990-1994. He was recognized as a premier recruiter, mentor and course director to countless future Air Force leaders. In 2003, he became the 13th member to be inducted into the USAF Academy Hockey Wall of Fame. He volunteers as the head coach of the USAF Academy club ice hockey team and led the team to their first appearance in the 2018 ACHA National Tournament. Mr. Hartje and his spouse, Deena, have two boys Carson, 19 and Jack, 16. The family has been assigned to USAFA Athletic Department family since 2009.
