Becvar, 38, joined the athletic department staff at Air Force as an intern in July 1985. He has worked in ticketing, promotions, marketing and development in his 15 years. Becvar has helped build the template for athletic marketing and development while at the Academy while spearheading AFA's "in-house" activities including the radio network, game program and stadium scoreboard. In addition, he developed all stadium signage, press box expansion, skybox development and several other revenue generating endeavors.
"The Academy is really going to miss Steve," Athletic Director Col. Randy Spetman said. "He's done so much for the athletic department in so many different ways. Steve is not the kind of guy you replace, he's the kind of guy you figure out how to carry on without."
"I've been blessed to work for an outstanding organization at the Academy in addition to serving a community that's been extremely supportive of Falcon athletics. It's never any easy thing to leave something that has been such a big part of your life, but I look forward to the challenges of starting up a new franchise in Memphis. I can't thank the Academy enough for what it's done for me and my family."
Steve Ehrhart, the general manager of the XFL-Memphis team said, "We are very proud to have Steve Becvar coming on board. We identified the best man in America to run our sales and marketing. We know that Steve has a great legacy at the Academy and we appreciate the first class way that Col. Spetman, Fisher DeBerry and all the folks at the Academy handled this transition.
Becvar's last day at the Academy will be Aug. 24.
