ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Jehiel Lewis scored eight of his 13 points in a 19-6 run midway through the second half Saturday that lifted Navy to a 71-53 victory over Air Force.
It was the first win of the season for the Midshipmen (1-2), who have won their last three meetings with Air Force. The Falcons fell to 2-2.
Lewis hit a pair of 3-pointers in the decisive spurt, which began when Francis Ebong made a free throw at 17:09 to give the Middies a 38-35 lead. Ebong then fed Jeff Charles for a basket inside, and Lewis hit two from long range to stretch the lead to 46-35 at 14:09.
Kyle Barker and Jamie Nero added 3-pointers, and Ebong contributed a fast break dunk at 12:12, before Air Force ended the drought on a three-point play by Lamoni Yazzie at 11:57. Lewis answered with a jumper to give Navy a 56-41 lead with 11:51 left, and Air Force got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Lewis, who was 4-for-4 from the field, shared Navy scoring honors with Ebong. Barker and Jason Jeanpierre each scored 11 for the Middies, who did not trail after Lewis hit three free throws at 11:58 of the first half for a 16-13 lead. Navy went 18-for-21 from the line and 23-for-44 from the field, including 11-for-18 in the second half.
Yazzie led Air Force with 15 points. The Falcons shot well in the first half (11-for-21) but tailed off badly (6-for-19) after the break.
