Matt Boyd Earns Decision over Aaron Jones

Matt Boyd came up with the right combination to earn Boxer of the Week honors for the week of Nov. 26-30.
Boyd, from Cadet Squadron 11, earn the weekly award by earning a decision over Aaron Jones from Cadet Squadron 23.
"This was a very hard-fought bout," said head boxing coach Eddie Weichers, Jr. "Both boxers were very effective with right-hand punches. In fact, Jones staggered Boyd twice during the bout."
But Boyd came back and landed several combination punches in the bout and it was those combinations that earned the boxer the weekly award, according to Weichers.
In the Friday night matches (Nov. 30), eleven boxers were competing in their first Friday Night bouts.
"The boxers had a great week of preparation leading up to the Friday bouts," said Weichers. "The preparation and effort was outstanding. Sometimes you can't tell if the team is ready."
"That's what Friday matches are all about. It is about getting use to handling the pressure. It is tough to sleep and relax the days before a bout. You are worried about your opponent, making weight, and lots of other distractions. Experience is the best teacher," Weichers said.
