AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) - Air Force's Tom Bellairs hit a layup with two seconds left in overtime to give the Falcons a 67-63 win over Arkansas State Wednesday night.
"I had to try something," said Bellairs, a junior forward.
Almost everything Bellairs tried worked. He scored a career-high 25 points, hitting 10 of 11 shots and three for three from 3-point range. With the win, Air Force improved to 4-3, while Arkansas State fell to 6-2.
"It's our biggest non-conference win by far," Air Force coach Joe Scott said. "And that includes last season as well."
The Falcons shot 58 percent, sinking 12 of 25 from 3-point range.
Bellairs got the best of 7-foot Jason Jennings who guarded him much of the night.
Jennings damaged the Falcons on offense, leading the Indians with 21 points, but wasn't able to keep up with Bellairs on the defensive end.
"We had a tough time matching up with (Air Force)," Arkansas State coach Dickey Nutt said.
