AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) - Joel Gerlach and Lamoni Yazzie each had 19 points as Air Force jumped out to a 15-2 lead, then held on for a 74-64 victory over BYU on Monday afternoon.
Tim Keller had 15 points, hitting 10 of his 13 shots including 5-of-6 3-pointers for Air Force (7-10, 1-3 Mountain West Conference). A.J. Kohl had 10 points.
BYU (12-5, 2-2) shot 66.7 percent in the first half but committed seven turnovers before the break to the Falcons' one.
Jared Jensen had 20 points for BYU. Mark Bigelow added 16 and Jimmy Balderson had 14.
Air Force was 13-for-24 on 3-pointers. BYU switched from man-to-man to zone on defense to shut down the perimeter game, but Air Force responded by driving to the basket.
BYU closed to within 58-50 after Mark Bigelow's 3-point basket late in the second half. But Gerlach hit a 3-pointer of his own with 6:20 to play and Air Force was never threatened again.
"That might have been the shot of the game," Air Force coach Joe Scott said. "That's just the way you want to finish a game."
