Aztecs beat Falcons, 1-0, in overtime

The San Diego State women's soccer team defeated the Air Force Falcons, 1-0, overtime in Mountain West Conference action, Sunday, Oct. 20, in San Diego, Calif. With the win, the Aztecs' record improves to 10-4-0 with a 2-1 mark in the MWC. Air Force falls to 5-11-0, 0-4-0 in the league.
Sunday's match between the Aztecs and Falcons lasted, in essence, just 13 seconds. The two teams ended regulation play tied at 0-0. On SDSU's first possession of the ball at the start of the first overtime period, junior Kim Castellanos dribbled the ball down toward the 18-yard box. Senior Boo Tinling hurried from the back line defense to take the pass from Castellanos and, in turn, passed the ball to senior Nicole Findlay who knocked in the goal at 90:13.
San Diego State out-shot the Falcons 18-2 in the game. The Aztec defense kept the Falcons from taking any shots in the first half, while SDSU's offense managed six in the first 45 minutes, followed by 11 in the second half. San Diego State kept Falcon keeper J.J. Wolf busy at the net, as she registered nine saves.
The loss was the second consecutive 1-0 overtime loss for the Falcons. AFA fell to UNLV on Friday, Oct. 18, in Las Vegas. Air Force has now scored just three goals in its last five games.
The Falcons travel to New Mexico on Friday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. in Albquerque.
