Falcons fall to New Mexico, 1-0, in MWC Championships

The Air Force women's soccer team fell to New Mexico, 1-0, in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference Championships Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the South Field in Provo, Utah.
The sixth-seeded Falcons finished the season with a 7-12 overall record.
Third-seeded New Mexico scored in the 18th minute on a shot by Marte Dolva that reached the net just past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper J.J. Wolf. LeAnne Hendren was credited with the assist on the play.
In the physical match, Air Force finished with 15 fouls while New Mexico was whistled for 11. The Lobos (11-7-1 overall) out-shot the Falcons, 14-5. Air Force entered the tournament on a two-game winning streak with back-to-back shutout victories over New Mexico (1-0) on Oct. 25 and Wyoming (3-0) on Oct. 30 to close out the regular season.
New Mexico advances to play second-seeded Utah on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 4:30 p.m. The Utes beat Wyoming, 1-0, in their first-round match. BYU, which went 6-0 in league play, received a first-round bye. The winner of the seven-team, single-elimination tournament, receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championships.
