Air Force Beats Fairfield, 5-4, In College Hockey

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Five different Falcons scored goals as Air Force defeated Fairfield, 5-4, in a non-conference college hockey game Saturday, Dec. 28, in Fairfield, Conn.
Andy Berg had one goal and two assists and defenseman Steve Mead had three assists to lead the Falcons.
Air Force, 8-9 overall, scored first when freshman Carson Strang scored from Mead and Brooks Turnquist two minutes into the game. Fairfield tied the score midway through the first period on a goal by Cody Wojdyla. The score remained tied until Scott Zwiers scored a power-play goal from Mead and Berg 10 minutes into the second period. Two minutes later, Berg gave the Falcons a 3-1 lead with a power-play goal from Mead and Ryan Wiggins. Fairfield's Dan Cotter answered with a power-play goal late in the second period to make the score 3-2 entering the third period.
The Falcons took a 5-2 lead on goals by Kyle Fransdal and Ryan Wiggins in the third period. Wiggins' goal came on the power play at 13:11 of the third period and was the eventual game winner.
Fairfield made the game interesting with two goals in the final four minutes. Eamon Delgiacco scored a power-play goal at 16:01 and then Casey Laflamme scored with 1:13 left in the game. With 1:12 remaining, Fairfield pulled the goaltender but was unable to tie the game.
Air Force, winners of three straight, out-shot Fairfield in every period and 23-15 in the game. Mike Polidor made 11 saves for the Falcons while Michael Wolfe made 18 for the Stags. Air Force was 3-for-4 on the power play while Fairfield was 2-for-3.
The two teams conclude the series Sunday, Dec. 29, at 7:05 p.m. ET in Fairfield.
