John Yeager gave up just one run on three hits en route to a complete game and led Villanova to a 5-1 victory over Air Force Saturday at the Service Academies Classic in Millington, Tenn.
Yeager was on his game early in the contest, retiring the first 14 Air Force batters. Falcon Derck Kasel gained AFA's first hit with a double down the left field line in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Villanova (1-4) took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Brian Trotta that scored Adrian Schau, and an RBI double by Marshall Canosa. Canosa put the Wildcats up 3-0 with a solo home run off Air Force reliever Jesper Stubbendorff in the sixth.
Josh Phifer cut the Villanova lead to two with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, but the only other hit the Falcons could muster was an infield hit by Nick Liegl in the ninth.
Erik Fisher started for Air Force (7-6), but lasted only 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and walked five Villanova batters.
The Falcons finished the round-robin portion of the Classic with a 1-2 record and will find out later Saturday whether they will play in the consolation or championship game on Sunday.
