Freshman Paul Gensic was named Mountain West Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Gensic, a Fort Wayne, Ind., native garnered first place honors in the pole vault competition when he vaulted a conference best 17'-5 1/2" (5.32m) last weekend at the Mountain West-Pac-10 Challenge at the Cadet Field House. Along with provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., Gensic set a new freshman school record and moved into second place on the school's all-time indoor list. His mark is currently eighth-best in the NCAA this season.
"There is no question that Paul's vault establishes him as one of the top freshmen vaulters in the country," Lindeman said. "I believe the mark will get him into the Indoor Championships and who knows what can happen there."
Air Force returns to action this weekend in State College, Pa. at the Nittany Lion Challenge Cup. The meet begins on Friday, Feb. 8.
