BOULDER, Colo. – An Air Force Record in the 400-meter hurdles from junior Allison Fernstrom headlined an impressive day of competition for the Air Force track and field team, as they took on many of their local counterparts at the Jerry Quiller Classic in Boulder. Fernstrom's record-setting finish was one of 10 first-place finishes for the Falcons this afternoon (April 4) at Potts Field.
Fernstrom, who had been inching toward the program standard during the first few weeks of the outdoor season, blew past that mark on Saturday. Separating herself from the field at the on the final curve, Fernstrom raced to a 59.34 finish – a time that knocked 0.47 seconds off former Falcon, and current assistant, Michelle Roca's record from 2022 and bettered the overall field by nearly one full second.
Senior Jettason Rose had a strong afternoon on the track, as he swept the sprint titles and led off a 4x100-meter relay that accounted for the seventh-fastest time in program history at 40.44. The senior finished first out of 30+ sprinters in both the 100-meter (10.64) and 200-meter (20.99) events, while leading Air Force to dominating team performances that included a 1-2-3-4 finish at 100 meters and a 1-2-3 sweep at 200 meters. Sophomore Asher Jenkins (10.66) and freshman Colton Manock (10.74) – two members of the 4x100-meter relay – finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-meter dash, while fellow freshman Jacob Fieberkorn completed the sweep with a fourth-place time of 10.88. Classmate Zachary DeWalt, the final 4x1 member, moved into 11th on the program's all-time standings of the 200-meter dash (21.08), as he joined Rose and Jenkins (third, 21.19) in that sweep. DeWalt and Manock also teamed up with junior Ryan Hajek and sophomore Christopher Johnson to close out the day with a victory in the 4x400-meter relay (3:16.06).
The sixth-best pole vault clearance in program history (3.96m/12'11¾") gave junior Karli Neff the victory and paced the Falcons to three of the top-five clearances, as freshman Julie Segroves and sophomore Barrett Boyd finished third (3.76m/12'4") and fifth (3.56m/11'8"), respectively.
Like the sprints, Air Force collected a 1-2 finish in the 800-meter event, as freshman Ryan Daly (1:52.73) and senior Jevonte Eaves (1:53.86) teamed up for the sweep. Freshman Bryce Denton earned his first collegiate victory with a 14:57.90 finish in the 5000-meter run, while sophomore Alese Banks took first in the long jump (5.76m/18'10¾"), freshman Cadee Alder earned a win in the javelin (45.77m/150'2") and sophomore Evan Keefe used a distance of 54.78 meters (179'8") to win the 24-thrower discus event.

The first-year Falcon opened her day with a hammer throw of 50.60 meters (166'0") – a mark that finished fourth in the meet, is the 12th-best distance in Air Force history and broke the freshman standard that Paige Birch set in 2024. She also improved her mark in the discus, moving up to No. 14 on the program's all-time standings following a throw of 45.23 meters (148'4").
The Falcons earned four more improvements to the record book on Saturday, including a top-15 time in the 400-meter hurdles from Hajek (52.14, No. 15). Sophomore Ryan McFadden lowered her 200-meter time to 25.58 to move into a tie for No. 17 on the program's all-time standings and lead Air Force to a 4-5-6 finish in that race. Classmate Trevin Jordan recorded a career-best 16.42-meter (53'10½") throw in the shot put to finish fourth in the meet and move up to No. 19 in the Air Force Record Book, while freshman Eleanor Borchard rounded out the updates to the all-time standings by clocking a 14.95 in the 100-meter hurdles to match the No. 21 time in program history.
In addition to the sprint sweeps, the men also held control of the leaderboard in the 1500-meter run, as freshman Christopher Creedon (third, 3:54.29) paced Air Force to half of the top-10 finishers in the 30-runner event.
Freshman Cameron Downing and sophomore Trenton Groff recorded massive PRs in the javelin throw to finish third (59.00m, 193'7") and fourth (58.25m, 191'1"), respectively, while the Falcons earned additional top-five finishes in the throws from Keefe (hammer throw, fifth at 54.50m/178'9"), freshman Mackenzie Fah (shot put, fifth at 12.22m/40'1¼") and freshman Victoria Richardson (javelin throw, fifth at 35.76 meters/117'4").
Sophomore Ella Pears earned runner-up honors in the triple jump following a wind-aided distance of 11.44 meters (37'6½"), while classmate James Vogel Jr. placed third in the pole vault after clearing 4.75 meters (15'7") and the freshmen duo of Chris Atunku (2.01m/6'7") and Zoe Heizer (1.61m, 5'3¼") picked up fifth-place finishes in their respective high jump events.
The Falcons split up again next week, as the multi-event athletes travel to Azusa, Calif., for the Bryan Clay Multis (April 9-10), Texas Tanner heads to Ramona, Okla., for the Oklahoma Throws Series Invitational and World Bronze Invitational (April 9-12), and the rest of the team stays in-state for the Kit Mayer Invitational in Golden (April 10-11).
