STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Jayden Nats crushed the Air Force Record in the 10,000-meter run this evening (April 3), capping a strong night of racing under the lights at the Stanford Invitational. Nats was one of five Falcons to account for Air Force Top 10 times during the prestigious event at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
Crossing the 10,000-meter finish line in a time of 27:59.31, Nats deleted more than 20 seconds off Ryan Johnson's 2023 standard to place ninth out of 36 runners in the top section of the race. Nats, who also broke Johnson's Service Academy Record, became just the fifth runner in Mountain West history to run sub-28 for 10,000 meters.
Seniors Zach Ayers and India Jones both improved their own Air Force Top 5 times on Friday night, as Ayers lowered his No. 3 all-time mark in the 5000-meter run down to 13:32.12 and Jones decreased er No. 4 standing in the 10,000-meter run to 33:08.30. In addition, sophomore Junior Allen vaulted up to No. 6 on the Academy's all-time steeplechase standings behind a third-place time of 8:46.45, while junior Ella Johnson (34:22.72) opened her season just one second off her career-best 10K, which is already No. 8 on the program's all-time list.
During the morning session, junior Anna Harden moved into the Air Force Top 10 for 1500 meters, as she deleted more than five seconds off her previous best time to debut at No. 10 with a personal-best finish of 4:25.62. Harden was one of three juniors to impact the program's all-time standings, as Rachel Fereday lowered her time to 4:26.12 (No. 12 all-time) during a runner-up finish in her section and Scarlet Fetterolf debuted at No. 19 in the Air Force Record Book after posting a personal-best time of 4:30.23.
On the men's side of the 1500-meter run, senior Ethan Ashley placed second in his section with a season-opening 3:46.05, while classmate Ben Scheller opened his final campaign with a third-place time of 3:42.68.
Elsewhere in Northern California, a small contingent of Falcons competed at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco. Junior Patrick Allen and sophomore David Sliwinski competed in the men's 5000-meter run, finishing sixth (14:13.76) and eighth (14:16.05), respectively, in their section to place within the top 25 of an overall race that featured more than 210 runners, while senior Ricky Fetterolf finished 19th in her section of the women's race (17:08.19) to place within the top 50 of the full 170-runner event.
Several members of the Falcons' 800-meter squad will split time between Stanford and San Francisco tomorrow (April 4), while the rest of the Air Force team will travel to Boulder for the Jerry Quiller Classic.
