Falcons name captains for 2002 football season

Six Air Force football players have been selected as the captains for the 2002 season.
Three players on defense and three players on offense will lead the Falcons into the 2002 season, which kicks off Aug. 31 vs. Northwestern. Seniors Leotis Palmer, Tom Heier and Bryan Blew, juniors Jeff Overstreet and Trevor Hightower and sophomore Anthony Schlegel were named captains.
Palmer, a halfback from Mcintosh County Academy in Darien, GA, played in all 12 games last season and is the top returning rusher. Heier, a halfback from Redmond High School in Redmond, Wash., played in seven games last season. He missed the final five games with a knee injury. Blew, a wide receiver from North High School in Edmond, Okla., played in seven games last season. He played five games at quarterback, but was moved to wide receiver this past spring.
Overstreet, a safety from Ellison High School in Killeen, Texas, started the first five games last season and was the team's leading tackler. He missed the final seven games with an ankle injury. Hightower, an outside linebacker from Plano High School in Plano, Texas played in six games last season. He was impressive in the spring, leading the team with three lunch pail awards (hardest worker during that day's practice). Schlegel, an inside linebacker from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas, was a third-team Sporting News Freshman All-American last season. He played in 10 games, starting six, and was sixth on the team with 48 total tackles.
