Three Air Force Football Players Earn Academic Honors

Air Force football players Adam Strecker, Ryan Carter and Andrew Martin were named to the 2003 Academic All-District VII football team today by the College Sports Information Director's of America. All three players will appear on the national ballot for Academic All-American honors which will be released later this year.
Strecker, a senior tight end, is considered by head coach Fisher DeBerry to be one of the finest to play the position in school history. Strecker has two catches for 32 yards this season. Last year, he scored four touchdowns which is an option era (1980) record for tight ends. Strecker is a civil engineering major and has a 3.73 grade point average.
Carter is a junior defensive end. He has recorded 35 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1. 5 quarterback sacks. He leads the team with two blocked kicks this season. He blocked field goals against UNLV and Colorado State. Carter is an astronautical engineering major and carries a 3.63 GPA.
Martin, a senior punter, ranks second in the Mountain West Conference in punting with a 44.5 average. His average is the fifth best for a single-season in AFA history. Air Force also leads the conference and ranks third nationally in net punting with a 42.8 average. Martin's career-long punt of 69 yards earlier this season against Northwestern is the longest by any player in the MWC this season. He is an American history major with a 3.69 GPA.
The Falcons play at New Mexico this Saturday. Air Force is 7-3 overall and is tied with the Lobos for second in the conference with a 3-3 mark.
