Air Force Fencers Excel at Armed Forces Championships

Armed Forces Championship: On Nov. 16, the fencing teams competed in the Armed Force Championships in San Diego. The meet included the teams from Navy, Army, and U.S. Marines.
Top Epee Fencers: Timothy French was the men's epee champion, followed by Curtis Marshall and Gian Carlo Rando. Seventh-place went to Serge Mettes. Apphia Taylor won the women's epee event. Lydia Bigelow and Teresa Moreno took second and third, respectively.
Top Sabre Fencers: In the men's sabre competition, AFA fencer Sam Bartron took second place; Joshua Runyan from Navy won the men's event. AFA team captain Sean Blas tied for third with Kiel Smith from the U.S. Marines. Joshua Trice took fifth and Edemumo Oboho took ninth. Alison Frieman was the Falcons' top finisher in the women's competition. Frieman placed second followed by Marisa Romero and Kate Gulczynski. Mary Zinnel and Amber Park were eighth and ninth, respectively.
Top Foil Fencers: Ashley Roell tied for third place with Heather Alojado (Army) and Ebony Cook was the fifth-place finisher, while Natalie Chounet followed in eighth place. The men's foil participants of Kent Morgan, Julio Gamez and Ryan Sealy took eighth, ninth and 10th place, respectively.
UC San Diego Dual: On Nov. 15, the Falcons participated in their first dual of the season. The men's team lost 2-3. In the women's competition, the Falcons also lost 2-3. Teams competing were: Air Force, UC San Diego, Cal Tech, Army, Cal Fullerton and Stanford.
