Two Fencers Win Falcon Invitational

On Saturday, two Air Force fencers were the overall winners of the Falcon Invitational. Over 60 local fencers competed this weekend at the Academy. Advancing to the championships rounds, AFA senior Apphia Taylor was the women's epee champion and sophomore Timothy French was the mixed epee winner. In the final championship bout, Taylor outscored her teammate Kate Strickland who finished second. The Falcons' Jason Stockdale, who lost to French in the final championship bout, was the second-place finisher in mixed epee.
Air Force fencers Charity Day, Bryn Thoreson, Teresa Moreno and Lydia Bigelow finished third through sixth in the women's epee finals. Megan Brown from the Northern Colorado Fencing Club and Ashley Yea, Cheyenne Fencing Club, took seventh and eighth place, respectively. Air Force fencers Elizabeth Jaszczak, Christina Chung and Monica Herrera followed in places nine through 11 in the final rounds.
In mixed epee, AFA fencer Gian Carlo Rando was the third-place finisher with team captain Curtis Marshall taking sixth place.
The Academy fencing team will compete next in the North American Cup Division I meet in Palm Springs, Calif., Dec. 12-14.
