Falcons Down Denver In Home Meet

U.S.A.F.A., Colo.- The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Denver University Friday evening in the Cadet Gymnasium Natatorium. The women won 173-115 while the men topped the Pioneers 158-121.
On the women's side, senior Sara Crowell, juniors Karen Long and Andrea Hyma, and sophomore Carly Omizo won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.35 for the Flacons. Senior Carly Baxter secured the top spot in the 200 freestyle (1:55.52) while freshman Lindsey Kirchhoff finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.65) followed by junior Sarah Mooney (1:03.32). Crowell won the 200 butterfly (2:13.28) with junior Lara Styles and sophomore Kiley Revel finishing second (2:16.11) and third (2:18.65) respectively. Long finished first in the 50 freestyle for Air Force (24.63) and junior Michelle Hagar won both the 1 and 3-meter diving events.
For the men, the Falcon team of seniors Casey Bowen, Paul Brehm, Eric Pounds, and freshman Andre Bergman won the 200 medley relay. Newcomer Chris Knaute finished first in the 1650 freestyle (16:23.75) and sophomore Charles LeBeau and junior Evan Parr finished first (54.25) and second (54.54) respectively in the 100 backstroke. Bergman won the 100 breaststroke for the Falcons with a time of 1:00.50. Pounds and senior Mason Phelps took the tops spots in the 200 butterfly with Pounds finishing at the 1:54.28 mark followed by Phelps at 1:58.89. Freshman Daniel Phenicie won the 3-meter diving event for the Falcons.
Both teams return to action Nov. 20-22 for the Speedo Cup in Long Beach, Calif. The men and women improve to 6-0 and 7-0 respectively in dual meet action this season.
