NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Championships

The 2003 NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Championships will take place at the U.S. Air Force Academy, March 20-23. Parents of participants should contact their schools to arrange transportation to the Academy site. The host hotel, Drury Inn, is full. The Academy has arranged with the Radisson Inn (719) 278-7017 for additional accommodations. Please let the front desk know you are with the NCAA Fencing Championships.
Results of the championships will be posted on the Academy's web site at www.airforcesports.com (go to fencing). The NCAA will also post results to its site at www.ncaasports.com.
Opening ceremonies will take place at 2 p.m. The men's gold medal bout will start immediately following the ceremonies. The women's gold medal bouts will take place on Sunday, March 23 at 2:00 p.m. Guests wanting to attend the Championships Banquet should contact their coach or the Academy's events management office at (719) 333-9532. MAJOR WINTER STORM WARNING
Today: Rain showers starting this afternoon with even a possible isolated thunderstorm. Rain changing to snow late tonight.
Tuesday: With the precursor warm temps snow will probably stick to the grassy areas for the first few hours and eventually start sticking to the roads by late in the day. I expect to see 2-4 inches of accumulation by Tuesday night. Higher elevations may see 3-5 inches. Heavier snow amounts will be likely north of Baptist road to Denver.
Wednesday: Snow will continue, coupled with very strong winds (up to 50 knots). I expect blizzard conditions most of the day with possibility of large drifts and low visibilities associated with the winds. Snow accumulations of 4-6 inches possible. Higher elevations may see 5-7 inches. Heavier snow amounts will continue to be likely north of Baptist road to Denver.
Thursday: Snow showers most of the day with little accumulations.
With all that said: The storms major impact will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, tapering off on Thursday. Snow accumulations of 6-10 inches is expected over the lower elevations of the Academy and 8-12 inches at the higher elevations. The snow will be a wet/heavy snow producing icy road conditions and poor visibilities.
