Air Force defeats Montana, 6-1

The Air Force women's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak Friday with a convincing 6-1 victory over the University of Montana at the Cadet Gymnasium Indoor Courts. Air Force improves to 5-6 with the victory.
The Falcons took an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches. Laura Nigro and Gina Black took the No. 1 match over Michaela Zima and Annabelle Janairo, 8-4. Heather Shelby and Kat Bushey followed suit at No. 2, winning 803, while AFA's No. 3 pair of Kelli O'Bryant and Jen Nigro held of Montana's Lindsey Torgerson and Erin Cooney, 9-7.
Air Force captured the first five singles matches in straight sets, led by Laura Nigro, who beat Zima 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. Shelby beat Torgerson, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2, while Bushey handled Ashild Fjeldheim, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3. O'Bryant (No. 4) and Black (No. 5) won 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-4, repectively. Cooney captured the only win for Montana, beating AFA's Katie Tomkie, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.
The Falcons host two more matches on Saturday, against North Texas at 11a.m., and Southern Utah at 3 p.m.
