Air Force Cross Country Runners Excel in Nebraska

The Air Force men's cross country team placed first, while the women's team finished second in the Woody Greeno Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday, Sept. 20. Nebraska finished second, Wyoming, third and Creighton University, fourth in the university men's 8,000-meter race. Nebraska took first place, AFA second, Wyoming, third, Creighton University, fourth and Northern Colorado finished fifth in the university women's 6,000-meter.
In the men's race, the Falcons had nine runners finish ahead of the pack of over 290 competitors. AFA's top seven runners were Ben Payne (24:56), Brian Dumm (24:58), Mark Walter (25:06), Chris Acs (25:20), Jeff Gosselin (25:30), Nick Wilson (25:34) and Abe Wengel (25:35). Anthony D'Amato and Kalib Wilkinson finished eighth (25:38) and ninth (25:43), respectively.
In the women's race, Anne Chumlea led Air Force, finishing ninth with a time of 22:54, Beth Catherwood and Vivien Aspden followed in 11th (23:11) and 12th place (23:15), respectively. Catherwood's time was 23:11 (11th) and Aspden finished in 23:15 (12th). Andrea Pinchak finished 14th (23:21) and Ashley Culp finished 15th with a time of 23:21. Kelly McPherson and Margaret Frash finished 16th (23:23) and 17th (23:24), respectively. Ashley Snyder finished 20th with a time of 23:34.
