Air Force Wrestling Falls 35-6 To Chadron State

USAFA, Colo. - The injury-plagued Air Force wrestling team lost 35-6 to Chadron State, Saturday evening in the Cadet Gymnasium. Chadron State won eight of the 10 dual matches to win the dual, avenging a 33-9 Falcon win from a year ago.
Chadron State opened the match by taking the first three matches to take a commanding 11-0 lead. Jared Webster started the match with a 6-2 regular decision over Air Force's Matthew Benza at 149 pounds, followed by Travis Peak winning a major decision, 15-4, at 157 pounds over Josh Peterson. Jordan Johnson took the third match, winning a major decision, 19-11, at 165 pounds over Blaine Brown.
Jacob Lillich got Air Force on the board with an 9-3 major decision against Jake Schluckebeir to make the match 11-3 in Chadron State's favor.
AFA's momentum was short lived, as Chadron State rebounded immediately with a 7-2 regular decision win by Ben Holscher at 184 pounds over Luke Lefever. Chadron State made it two matches in a row, as Jeff Rusher won a 4-2 major decision at 197 pounds over Brendon McLain to give them a 17-3 lead after six matches.
Air Force came back in the following match, as Kurt Skarstedt earned a 7-2 regular decision win over Cale Bickerdyke in the heavy weight class to make the score 17-6 in Chadron State's favor. With an injury to AFA's Heath McKim, the Falcons forfeited the 125 pound match as Seth Groff was awarded six points to give Chadron State a 23-6 advantage.
Chadron State extended its lead to 29-6 as Chase Francis pinned Brandon Strong in the 133 pound match. Chadron State's Ryan Hoffman pinned Matthew Crippes in the 141 pound match to conclude the dual with a 35-6 win for Chadron State.
Air Force falls to 2-4 overall in dual meets. Chadron State improves to 5-5. The Falcons conclude the weekend by playing host to North Dakota State tomorrow (Feb. 14) at 1 p.m.
