Falcons Suffer Losses to UAF Nanooks Rifle Team

The Air Force rifle team suffered two losses at the hands of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Feb. 14-15. Air Force lost, 6293-6010, on Saturday with the Nanooks capturing the NRA Collegiate Sectional Championship in Alaska. The Academy shooters posted a 4519 in the smallbore and a 1491 in air rifle for the team total of 6010. UAF, who remains undefeated, shot 4722 in smallbore and 1571 in air rifle for the aggregate total 6293.
AFA's top shooter in Saturday's match was sophomore Christopher Hill who fired a 377 air rifle and 1166 smallbore scores for a combined total of 1543. Teammate senior Jason Waldow shot 374 and 1126 for a 1500 total. Sophomore Ed Gallagher fired a 1458 total with a 366 in the air rifle and a 1092 in the smallbore. Junior Matthew Colvin posted a 374 in the air rifle, while Sophomore Tim Siemer shot 1135 in the smallbore.
The Falcons' second loss came in the NCAA Qualifying match on Sunday against the UAF Nanooks, 6294-6061. Hill was the Falcons' top shooter with a smallbore 1165 and an air rifle 385 for an aggregate total of 1550. Waldow shot a 1514 total with individual scores of 1139 and 375. Gallagher fired an 1105 in the smallbore and a 375 in the air rifle, posting a 1480. Also competing was Colvin (382 air rifle) and Siemer (1135 smallbore).
The NCAA Rifle Championships will be held Thursday through Saturday, March 11-13, at Murray State University in Murray, Ky. Scores from each qualifying meet held last weekend throughout the country will be compared and eight teams will be invited to participate in the NCAA Championships.
