Falcons Gear Up For Outdoor Season

The Air Force track and field team opens the outdoor season on Saturday, March 20, when they travel to Irvine, Calif., for a quadrangular meet against UC-Irvine, Cornell and Yale. It is a competition being dubbed the "Meeting of the Minds".
The Falcons return a pair of conference outdoor champions in Ben Payne and Dominique Boivin. Payne won his second straight 10,000-meter run title last year, while Boivin became the first outdoor track or field athlete to win a conference title when she claimed first in the discus.
Three other current Falcons have also claimed conference championships in the past. Anthony Park won the triple jump and long jump at the 2001 MWC Outdoor Championships, while Paul Gensic (pole vault) and Sean Temple (110-meter hurdles) won titles in 2002.
This meet is the beginning of the Falcons' spring break training in California. Air Force's decathletes will compete at the Cal Combined Events in Berkeley on March 24-25, before they are joined by the rest of the team at the Stanford Invitational on March 26-27.
