The Air Force women's tennis team improved its record to 10-5 Friday with a 6-1 victory over Texas-Pan American at the Orville Cox Tennis Center in Edinburg, Texas. The Falcons conclude their spring break trip in Texas on Saturday with a match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Edinburg.
Air Force jumped out to a 1-0 lead with the doubles point by winning easily at Nos. 1 and 2. Seniors Laura Nigro and Gina Black defeated Vanessa Hedinger and Elysia Sloan, 8-1, at the No. 1 spot, while sophomore Kat Bushey and freshman Karissa Walker shut out Erica Rivera and Jessica Chavez, 8-0, at No. 2.
The Falcons won five of the six singles matches, all of them in straight sets. Nigro started it off with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hedinger at Nop. 1 and Bushey followed suit with a 7-6, 6-1 decision over Sloan at No. 2.
Ana Pena defeated Black, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3 for UTPA's only singles win, but Walker (6-0, 6-0), junior Katie Tomkie (6-3, 6-0) and freshman Kelly Morgan (6-0, 6-1) won at No. 4, 5 and 6, respectively.
