Paul Gensic Wins Pole Vault Event with NCAA Provisional Mark

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Members of the Air Force men's track and field team traveled to two states for the opportunity to earn NCAA Provisional Marks on Saturday, March 6. The Falcon runners returned to Seattle, Wash., for a Final Qualifying Meet at the University of Washington, while the field competitors headed to South Bend, Ind., for a Last Chance Meet at Notre Dame.
In South Bend, Paul Gensic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) won the pole vault with a provisional height of 17'4?". His winning height was nearly a foot more than the second-place finisher. Gensic was the only field participant to tally a provisional qualifying mark, although fellow vaulters Christian Morgan (Henderson, Nev.) and Jason Jones (Park City, Utah) each claimed a top-10 finish. Morgan placed fourth with a height of 16'0", while Jones placed eighth, with a mark of 15'6?".
Anthony Park (Las Vegas, Nev.) also took part in the meet, recording a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 50'9?". His mark is a new school record and marks the third straight meet in which Park has improved the Academy's record.
Two provisional marks were met in Seattle, as Chris Acs (Niles, Ohio) and the distance medley relay team of Nathan Franz (Sierra Vista, Ariz.), Mark Walter (League City, Texas), Bryant Bevan (Langhorne, Pa.) and Troy Jensen (Santa Ana, Calif.) earned provisional qualifying times. Acs ran the 3000-meter run in a time of 8:01.80 to finish fourth, while the relay quartet also earned a fourth-place finish, crossing the line in 9:40.62.
Luke Marker (Manson, Wash.) also competed at the meet, winning the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.03. While it wasn't a provisional qualifying time, Marker already recorded one conditional time at the MWC Indoor Championships.
The list of entries for the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 12-13, will be finalized shortly.
