Air Force Falls To UNLV, 5-2

Despite victories at the top two singles spots, the Air Force women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to UNLV Saturday at the Academy. Senior Laura Nigro and sophomore Kat Bushey posted wins for Air Force, which fell to 13-11 overall and 1-5 in the MWC. With the victory, UNLV is 15-6 overall and 5-2 in league play.
UNLV took a 1-0 lead with wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles spots. Nigro and fellow senior Gina Black posted an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, defeating UNLV's Aga Abram and Anne Claire Ortiz-Luiz. Gyorgi Zsiros and Claire Smith of UNLV won at No. 2, 8-2, over Bushey and freshman Karissa Walker, while the Rebels' No. 3 team of Cindy Treber and Mery Constanti beat Miclynn Crail and Liza Vaccaro by the same score.
Nigro won her second consecutive MWC match and is now 4-2 against league opponents at No. 1 singles with an impressive 6-4, 6-4 victory over Zsiros. Bushey and Abram produced the best singles match of the day, with Bushey saving four match points and winning on the fifth match point of her own, 0-6, 7-6, (17-15). The Rebels won the other four singles matches in straight sets.
Air Force closes out its 2004 regular season on Sunday, April 18 against the 29th-ranked New Mexico Lobos at the Academy. The match will begin at 9 a.m.
