Las Cruces, N.M. - Saving its best round for last, the Air Force golf team wrapped up play Tuesday at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State at the par-72, 7,074-yard NMSU Golf Course. With a final round score of 297, the Falcons finished 15th in the event with a tournament total of 904. Taking first place in the event was Xavier, which finished 10 strokes ahead of second-place UT Arlington with a three-round total of 853 (-11). Meanwhile, medalist honors went to Xavier's John Streibich, who won a playoff against Tim Knight of Colorado after both finished at 209 (-7) for the tournament.
Pacing Air Force in the event was junior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.), who finished tied for ninth with a 2-under-par 214. After opening with a pair of even-par rounds on Monday, Goulding fired a 70 in the final round. This marks Goulding's fourth top-10 showing in five tournaments this season, as well as the third event in which he has finished below par. Senior captain Scott Redmond (Columbus, Ga.) followed in the standings at 225, tying for 53rd place, while sophomore Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) finished tied for 71st with a 235.
Sophomore Tyler Labrum (Roosevelt, Utah), who rebounded from a rocky first day of play by shooting a 72 in the final round, ended the event in a tie for 73rd place with a 236, while Jared Freeman (So., Brazil, Ind.) came in 78th with a score of 239.
The Falcons wrap up the fall season next week, Nov. 7-9, when they travel to Kaneohe, Hawaii, for the University of Hawaii Fall Invitational.
