Nick Wilson Takes First at Wyoming Invitational

LARAMIE, Wyo. -- In a time of 22:12.34, Air Force senior Nick Wilson (Jacksonville, Fla.) won the Wyoming Invitational on Friday, Sept. 2, in Laramie, Wyo. One of four Falcons to finish within the top-10, Wilson led the Falcons to a second-place team finish in the season-opening meet.
A quartet of seniors claimed top-10 marks, as Jeff Gosselin (Cornelius, N.C.) claimed sixth with a time of 22:22.34. Classmates Mark Walter (League City, Texas) and Matt Hellier (Modesto, Calif.) finished ninth and 10th, respectively, behind times of 22:36.64 and 22:38.44.
Junior Richard Elmore (Napa, Calif.) claimed 13th, with a time of 22:49.01 to round out the scoring contingent. Although his score didn't count for the Falcons, freshman Sean Houseworth (Carlock, Ill.) ran to a 15th-place (23:02.10) finish in his collegiate debut.
As a team, the Falcons finished just 10 points behind meet winner Colorado State (39-29). The two conference foes easily distanced themselves from the rest of the field, including third-place Iowa State, who tallied 86 points.
On the women's side, senior Nicole Graham (Blue Springs, Mo.) placed fourth with a time of 15:12.40. Classmate Andrea Pinchak (15:50.20) placed 13th in 15:50.20, while sophomore Kelly Robinson (Holt, Mich.) took 23rd with a time of 16:23.60. Junior Margaret Frash (Newburyport, Mass.) also collected a top-30 finish in the field of 68, as she crossed the line in 16:31.70 to finish 26th.
The women finished third in the team standings with 83 points, placing behind Colorado State (23) and Colorado-Colorado Springs (49).
Air Force returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the annual Woody Greeno Invitational.
