Falcons Fall to Frogs in Straight Sets

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Air Force volleyball team dropped a Mountain West Conference match to TCU on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Fort Worth, Texas. The Falcons fell 30-15, 30-14, 30-13 to the host Frogs.

Air Force found itself down 6-1 early in the first match. Sophomore Jasamine Pettie recorded the team's first kill and was quickly followed by freshman Jocelyn Booker and junior Rebecca Gerton. Sophomore Kristina Stewart added an ace to pull the Falcons within two at 7-5. The Horned Frogs took a seven-point lead at the 12-5 mark, but pulled within four due to several errors by their opponents. Freshman Hannah Sorber used a dump-over pass for a kill, while junior Kim Kallabis added an ace. TCU took the next nine points to extend its advantage to 25-11. Freshman Katie Batchelder put down a pair of kills during the waning minutes of the first game. With the Frogs at game-point, Booker produced a solo block and assisted on another with Kallabis, but TCU doubled up the Falcons for the 30-15 win.

Booker posted a kill to pull the Falcons within one at the 3-2 mark, but TCU quickly surged ahead to the 10-2 advantage. The Horned Frogs continued to put points on the board, ringing up its lead to a 15-6 margin. Three straight kills from Batchelder put the Falcons over the 10-point plateau (17-10). Gerton added one more kill, but the Falcons fell 30-14.

Air Force earned the first point, but TCU took the next four before a kill by Booker stopped its run. Stewart added a pair of kills to tie the set at four. Despite kills from Stewart and freshman Michelle Harrington, the Falcons were quickly doubled up by the Frogs at 12-6. Sorber connected on another kill, as did Batchelder and Booker. Pettie added one more kill, but the Falcons fell 30-13.

Batchelder led the team with six kills, while Booker was second with five. Booker, who connected on half of her 10 kills while committing just two errors, led the team with a .300 hitting percentage. Kallabis added a team-high 15 assists in addition to one of two Air Force aces. Stewart, who accounted for the Falcons other ace, tied with Gerton for the team leading seven digs. Booker posted up a block, while assisting with Kallabis on another.

The Falcons wrap up a grueling span of seven matches in 12 days on Tuesday, Oct. 21, when they host in-state rival Northern Colorado at the Academy. The first serve is slated for 7 p.m., in Clune Arena.
