The Academy's rifle team fell short in three matches this past weekend when the Falcons matched-up against Nevada-Reno, UTEP and Wyoming at the Cadet Gymnasium rifle range. In a round-robin competition on Saturday, the Falcons shot a 4540, while UTEP had the highest score of 4566. Nevada-Reno had the second highest score of 4564, while Wyoming shot an aggregate 4186. On Sunday, the Falcons had another match against Reno. Air Force lost, 4599-4510. In spite of the three losses, this past weekend was a great performance for the Academy's shooters.
"Although we lost to both UTEP and Nevada-Reno on Friday and Saturday, we made some great progress," said 2nd LT Tim Siemer. Our team captain Jessica Palomba placed first in the smallbore competition with a personal best 575 and Justin Raines placed third in the air rifle event with a 583, a personal best for him."
"On Sunday the Falcons lost to Reno again, but the freshman shooters made a lot of good progress by applying many of the skills learned in practice and lessons learned from the previous day's match," added Siemer. "Overall, we are very proud of our shooters they gave it everything they had."
The Falcons overall record fell to 1-4. The Falcons host Nebraska and TCU on Nov. 30 at the Cadet Gymnasium Rifle Range.
