The Air Force Academy rifle team lost 4621-4490 to Nebraska on Nov. 19 at the Cadet Gymnasium Rifle Range. The loss gives Air Force a 1-5 overall mark for the season. While the Falcons are not picking up the wins, the cadets are setting personal records. Freshman Kristen Smith shot a personal record 518 in the air rifle event. Senior captain Jessica Palomba bounced back with a strong 579 in air rifle after a tough match the previous week. After the smallbore event, the Falcons shot in the final. During the final, Palomba shot a 100.3, moving her up to fourth place from fifth. Freshman Jon Stephenson shot a 93.3, which did not change his placement, but was well above his average to this point.
"Overall, it was obvious that the Falcons were well prepared for the high pressure finals situation and they rose to the occasion," according to Assistant coach 2nd Lt Tim Siemer.
The Air Force rifle team will host Nebraska and TCU at the Cadet Gymnasium Rifle Range, Nov. 30. Following the home match, the team will compete in the National Team Trials, Dec. 1-3 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
