The overall team champion will be determined by combining the smallbore and air rifle team totals into one aggregate score for each institution.
Last Time Out: On Feb. 25, Air Force competed against the University of Nevada-Reno in Reno. Air Force lost the match by less than one millimeter, finishing with a team air rifle score of 2325 to Reno's 2326 out of 2400.
In spite of the loss, the Falcons were encouraged by their strong performance against a nationally ranked team, especially since the Falcons fielded two freshmen, Clifton Mulkey and Chelsea Welsh, in the match. Senior Tim Siemer and junior Jessica Palomba helped to round out the air rifle team. Siemer's aggregate score of 1158 (577 in smallbore, plus 581 in air rifle) is the sixth time this year that the team captain has scored over 1156. Palomba tied her personal best in both smallbore and air rifle, shooting a 574 and 584 respectfully. Welsh had shot a personal best in air rifle with a 579. As a walk-on, she has averaged nine personal best this season. Mulkey finished with a 574 in smallbore and 581 in air rifle.

From the Coach: All though we did not qualify as a team or an individual for the national championships, the team did come a long way in 2005-06. We broke our school record three times and finished 8-7 overall is our first winning season in five years. Several of our members achieved multiple personal bests throughout the season, and we saw others continue to improve on their scores as well.
Head coach Justin Broughton: Head coach Justin Broughton is in his seventh year at the helm of the Air Force rifle team. In October 2005, Broughton became the first-ever civilian rifle coach. Broughton is a 1994 Air Force Academy graduate. He was a four-year letter winner, team captain and 1994 honorable mention All-American. Coaching the Academy's rifle team since 1999, Broughton's teams have amassed an 85-143 team record with two top 10 team finishes. During this time, the Falcons competed at the NCAA Championships in 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2004. In 2006, Air Force finished 8-7 overall, its first winning season in five years.
