Air Force senior kicker Zach Sasser was named the Mountain West Conference special teams player of the week today for his performance against Tennessee. Sasser made his first career start in Air Force's 31-30 loss at Tennessee. He went one-for-one on field goals, connecting on a 22-yarder in the first half to give he Falcons a 10-3 lead. He also hit all three extra point attempts and had four kickoffs that forced the Volunteers an average starting field position of their own 16 yard line, including one at the one-yard line. Late in the fourth quarter, Sasser successfully converted an onside kick that set up an Air Force touchdown to make the score 31-30.
Sasser joins Johnny Walker (Colorado State), Marcus Smith (New Mexico) and Michael Tuohy (New Mexico) as this week's winner. Walker and Smith share Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Tuohy garnered the Defensive award.
