WEST POINT, N.Y. - A pair of second half goals was enough for Army as it outlasted the Air Force women's soccer team, 2-1, in opening day action at the BAE Systems Classic, Friday evening at Clinton Field. The loss drops the Falcons to 1-6-1 on the season, while the Black Knights improve to 4-3-0.
The game was a back and forth match, until the 60th minute, when Army's Silvia Longo scored on a penalty kick. The Knights made it a 2-0 game with a goal by Elizabeth Betterbed in the 68th minute, with Longo assisting.
The Falcons made a late rally as Brittney Perkowski netted her first goal of the season in the 73rd minute. Freshman Jessica Yahn was credited with the assist.
Both teams took 11 shots in the game and six on goal. Erin Wallace had four saves at goalkeeper for AFA and Rebecca Garcia had five for Army.
The Falcons return to action this Sunday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. against Delaware, which lost 4-2 to Fairfield prior to the AFA-Army match.
