Falcons Capture Two Home Matches

The Air Force men's tennis team captured its first victories of the 2007 season Friday as the Falcons swept a pair of matches at the Academy, defeating The Citadel, 4-3, and South Dakota State, 7-0. With the two wins, Air Force improved to 2-5 this season.
The Falcons dominated doubles play in both matches, capturing the doubles point against each opponent. In the morning match against The Citadel, the Falcons' No. 1 doubles team of seniors Robby Alexander and Ryan White downed Danny Dossetor and James Eason, 8-5. Freshmen Brett Rosgers and Mike Youn followed suit at the No. 2 spot, defeating Martin King and Alberto Diaz in a tiebreaker, 8-7(3). Senior Keith Cronican and freshman James Tomlin paired to down Federic Petrilli and Derek Jose, 8-1, at the No. 3 position.
The doubles point proved to be crucial as the teams split the six singles matches. Dossetor and Eason won for The Citadel at the top two spots, defeating Alexander (7-5, 6-1) and Rodgers (7-6(11), 6-1), respectively. Youn and Cronican evened the match for the Falcons with straight-set victories at the Nos. 3 and 4 spots. Jose beat White, 6-3, 7-6(7) at No. 5 and Air Force junior Greg Ferry clinched the match for the Falcons with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 6 over Chris Beach.
The Falcons continued the momentum against South Dakota State in the second match. After winning all three doubles matches, Air Force took the top four singles matches in straight sets by Alexander, Rodgers, Youn and White. Tomlin and sophomore Kyle Epperson completed the win with 8-game pro set victories at No. 5 and 6, respectively.
The Falcons are back on the court on Saturday, Feb. 10 when they host Montana State at 12 p.m.
