Goodyear, Ariz. - Saving its best round for last, the Air Force golf team finished in 15th place at the Ron Moore Invitational, hosted by Denver at the par-72, 7,015-yard Palm Valley Golf Club. Wichita State claimed the team title with a score of 831 (-33), while Boise State's Troy Merritt won medalist honors after turning in a 203 (-13) for the tournament.
The Falcons, who fired a 292 in the final round on Tuesday, finished at 886 (+22). Leading the way for Air Force in the tournament was senior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.), who posted a personal-best three-round score of 209, finishing tied for eighth place. Goulding's mark of 209 ranks tied for third-lowest in the Air Force individual record books. Sophomore Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.) moved up in the standings, firing a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to finish tied for 54th place at 220 (+4).
Tying for 76th place was sophomore Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.) with a 228, while senior Chad Follett (El Paso, Texas) finished just one stroke behind. Rounding out the group for Air Force was junior Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), who ended the tournament with a 234.
The Falcons are back in action next week, March 26-27, when they head to Stevinson, Calif., for the Stevinson Ranch Invitational, hosted by Colorado.
