Fencing team finished 16th at NCAA Championships

The Air Force Academy fencing squad of senior Nathan Smith, junior Eliza Enyart and freshmen Peter French and Michael O'Connor finished 16th in the final team standings at the 2007 NCAA Collegiate Men's and Women's Fencing Championships on March 22-25 in Madison, N.J. All four fencers finished in the top 25 of their respective events.
NCAA recap: After Day 1 of rounds 1-4, O'Connor finished 24th in men's saber. Smith was in 17th place in foil with only six victories. With seven wins, French was in 12th place going into Day 2. Air Force was tied in 12th place in the team standings.
In Day 2, Smith fell to 21st place with only seven victories. Although French finished Day 2 with three more victories than the day before, his 10 wins were not enough to advance him to the top 10 as he finished in 14th place. O'Connor remained in 24th place. In the team standings, Air Force moved down to 13th place.
The women's events were held on Saturday and Sunday, Days 3 & 4. On Saturday, AFA's Enyart scored six wins to finish the day in 16th place. On Day 4 of the competition, Enyart fell to 19th place with only eight victories.
NCAA title: Penn State captured the title with a score of 194. St. John's (N.Y.) finished second with 176 and Columbia/Barnard was third at 169. Notre Dame took fourth with 160.
