Falcons Fall to No. 46 SDSU, 7-0

The Air Force men's tennis team put up a good fight Thursday but fell to the 46th-ranked San Diego State Aztecs, 7-0, at the Academy. With the victory, SDSU improved to 13-6 overall and 4-0 in the MWC, while the Falcons fell to 11-10 and 0-1 in league play.

SDSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches in a tiebreaker. SDSU's top doubles team of Markus Dickhardt and Chris Groh won the No. 1 match tiebreak, 8-6, over Falcon seniors Robby Alexander and Ryan White, while the Aztecs' No. 2 team of Bill Tim and Achim Ceban fought off a match point to defeat freshmen Brett Rodgers and Austin Francis, 10-8, in that tiebreak. SDSU won the No. 3 tiebreak, 7-3, as Anthony and Juan Gomez downed senior Keith Cronican and freshman James Tomlin.

SDSU swept all six singles matches as well, but two of them were stretched to three sets. Dickhardt, the reigning MWC Player of the Week, rallied to beat Alexander at the No. 1 spot, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Juan Gomez and Francis also played three sets at the No. 5 position, with Gomez taking a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0(3) decision.

Groh downed Rodgers, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, while Anthony Gomez beat Cronican, 7-6(3), 6-4 at No. 3 and Ceban defeated White, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. Robert Sabo beat Tomlin at the No. 6 spot, 11-9, as they played a pro set.

The Falcons are back in action on Friday, April 6 against BYU beginning at 10 a.m. at the Academy.
