Air Force Falters At UNLV Friday, 14-3

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A high-scoring seventh inning helped UNLV break open a tight game as the Rebels went on to defeat Air Force, 14-3, Friday night in a Mountain West Conference baseball game at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The loss drops the Falcons to 8-43, 0-22 while the Rebels improve to 21-34, 9-14.
Trailing 3-0, Air Force put up two runs in the top of the seventh to pull to within one run. UNLV then proceeded to put the game away in the bottom-half of the seventh by scoring nine runs and taking a 12-2 lead.
The Rebels added a run in the eighth and the Falcons scored two runs in the ninth.
The Falcons were held to nine hits in the game, stopping a season-best streak of nine consecutive games of ten-or-more hits. Chay Derbigny led the way for the Falcons, going 3-for-5. Tyler McBride was 2-for-3 with a run scored and driven in.
UNLV had 15 hits in the game. Michael Brenly and Xavier Scruggs both homered for the Rebels.
Falcon starter Alex Truesdale (0-9) took the loss, allowing four runs, just one earned in six innings pitched. Truesdale allowed eight hits and struck out three.
Michael Ruvolo, Joe Peterson, Adam Teach and Juan Perez also saw action in relief. Ruvolo made his 33rd appearance of the season, trying the Air Force record for most pitching appearances in a season.
Rebel starter Kevin Skogely (5-3) picked up the win, striking out 10 in 6.1 innings.
The Falcons conclude their 2007 season tomorrow against the Rebels at 2 p.m.
