METAIRIE, La. -- Three members of the Air Force track and field program earned All-Midwest Region honors for their performances at the recent regional meet, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced following the four regional championships. Junior Kevin Hawkins joined freshmen Nick Frawley and Dan Paladino on the all-region team.
To be eligible for an all-region team, athletes must have finished within the top eight at the various regional meets. (The 10,000-meter run, heptathlon and decathlon are not contested at regional sites).
Hawkins accounted for the squad's best finish of the weekend, as he placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:49.76. While qualifying for the finals in that event, Hakwins broke a 13-year-old Academy standard with a time of 1:48.66.
Frawley, who earned an at-large invitation to the national championships, placed eighth in the pole vault after clearing 16'7¼". He was one of just two underclassmen to finish within the top 10. Paladino also recorded an eighth-place finish in the hammer with a throw of 189'4".
